  • Physical Painting is a project run by artist Henna Yoon.

It came from an idea that painting could be out of its 2 dimensional flat surface and get liveness of its own.
The key elements are adopted from main idea that features physical theatre which are,

    1. Bring up storytelling by using physical body language and it shouldn’t be derived from fixed text. Instead it shall be devised and expressed
via visual vocabulary-painting could be done by not only hands but also with various parts of body as well as combination of all kinds.

    2. Break the fourth wall-in theatre it means avoid traditional proscenium arch, in painting it conveys to break conventional flatness of painting.

    3. Encourage audience participation-why not make painting with groups of mass.

I believe all of above ideas could be applied to painting and painting could be done by performative way as well as also shown as performance.
Furthermore I’m imagining this performative painting could be evolutionised as video screen that never stops moving.
Painting should embrace more of gestures and physical energy. However it is different from Action Painting. Physical Painting is something that contains real happening as painting quality via video screen as well as final residue of physical movement by performer/artist/mass.
It is still in early stage and my research for this project is currently evolved with idea of Physical Drawing that experiments body extended as drawing tool with various object and materials.
Physical Painting is under production now. Watch out this space or facebook page for more immediate changes.

More to come & To be continued.
